ABOUT ENDING CITIZENS UNITED

We need to fix our dysfunctional political system and get unaccountable money out of it once and for all, even if it takes a constitutional amendment” – Hillary Clinton, April 2015

I couldn’t agree with her more, Lucas.

Hillary Clinton just made Citizens United and forcing “dark money” out of our elections a major platform for her 2016 presidential campaign.

It should be a priority for all of us. The Supreme Court’s egregious ruling on Citizens United opened up the floodgates for unlimited, anonymous spending on campaign advertising through Super PACs. These special interest groups have spent upwards of $1 billion influencing our elections in the five years since the court ruled, and it's time we put a stop to it.

We cannot let another election go by without putting an end to this unfair legislation. Millions have already taken action – and I hope you’ll join them, Hillary Clinton, and me by adding your name and calling on Congress to end Citizens United.

Hillary’s inclusion of campaign finance reform as a central issue in her campaign is an exciting step forward in what’s been a long fight.

My first job in politics was as a state issues director, fighting for campaign finance reform in New York State. In the New York City Council, I worked with the advocacy group Common Cause and helped author the bill that helped pave the way for today’s grassroots-centered campaign finance system in New York City. And in Congress, I co-chaired a task force to support the eventual passage of historic campaign finance reform across the country.

But in 2010, Citizens United erased it all . We’ve been fighting back ever since, and now with Hillary championing the cause, we’re nearing a tipping point. We need you with us now more than ever to help put elections back in the voters’ hands:

Add your name and tell Congress: End Citizens United once and for all!

Thank you for joining me today,

Carolyn
