ASSOCIATE DEAN AND CLINICAL PROFESSOR
NYU SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
PRESTON ROBERT TISCH CENTER
FOR HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM
The NYU School of Professional Studies seeks the academic and administrative
head for its renowned Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality and
Tourism. The successful candidate will be a committed educator and industry
leader, with a record of achievement in higher education, and evidence
of significant roles within the dynamic professional environments of hospitality
and tourism. Expected start date is summer 2015.
TThe Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism enjoys an international
reputation for innovative undergraduate and graduate professional studies,
the applied research expertise of its practitioner faculty, its deep and
mutually supportive connections to the New York and global industry communities,
and the quality of its programs. Its undergraduate programs attract highly
qualified traditional-age students, and are unique for fully integrating
liberal arts education within a rigorous, professionally focused, academic
orientation. The Center's two dynamic Master of Science curricula
and its two graduate certificates enjoy high standing, and accommodate
both full-time and part-time students. Additionally, its non-credit professional
education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops collectively
serve the universe of professionals involved in hospitality and tourism.
The Tisch Center's nine full-time and nearly 60 adjunct faculty members,
along with a cadre of distinguished lecturers, prepare some 400 matriculated
undergraduate and graduate students to become innovative and socially
responsible leaders in their chosen fields. They also contribute to the
continuing education of more than 2500 professionals each year through
non-credit offerings, certificate programs, invitational lecture series,
and the Center's signature professional event, the annual NYU Hospitality
Industry Investment Conference (entering its 37th year).
The Center is known for the strength of the communities it sustains. A
committed team of industry leaders provides guidance, advocacy, and philanthropic
support to the work of the Center, and serves as a valuable resource.
Faculty members, prized for their teaching, research and practice, guide
students as mentors in their professional development. The Preston Robert
Tisch Center Alumni Association is an active worldwide professional network
of degree-holding graduates, in positions of influence in their fields
of practice.
The Tisch Center program is anchored at the Washington Square campus in
New York City. With more lodging brands than any other market in the world,
the New York City location offers students unparalleled exposure and access
to the hospitality and tourism industry. In addition, many adjunct faculty
are experienced professionals and executives, providing a direct link
between the classroom and the industry.
The Associate Dean will lead faculty and staff and draw support from the
field to advance the academic mission of the Center. He/she will report
to the Dean of NYU's School of Professional Studies, and benefit from
the collegial support and complementary academic expertise of the other
units across the school.
The successful candidate will possess advanced academic and professional
credentials (Ph.D., or comparable advanced terminal degree preferred),
and a minimum of ten years of substantial direct professional and academic
experience. S/he will be qualified to hold a faculty position at the level
of clinical professor. S/he will show evidence of being able to conceive
academically sound and timely programs for rapidly evolving disciplines,
be adept at building and sustaining relationships, and have demonstrated
strong administrative/management/leadership skills. S/he will have a vision
for higher education that supports rigorous academic standards and promotes
internal and external support and visibility for the Tisch Center and
the NYU School of Professional Studies. The Associate Dean must be committed
to advancing the global presence--and global character--of the academic
programs, and to developing the future leaders of the industries which
the Preston Robert Tisch Center serves, and, in the process, growing the
identity and reputation of the Center.
