Removing Language Barriers in Housing Court
Decrying the lack of multi-lingual signs and services in New York City’s Housing Courts, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer urged the Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York to improve access to justice for NYC’s 1.8 million Limited English Proficiency residents. “Equal Justice for all is a fundamental American principle. But justice is elusive when courthouses confuse the very people they are supposed to serve,” said Comptroller Stringer. “We need to ensure that our c ourts serve all people – not just those who speak English.”
