Our country is troubled by division and faced with tremendous challenges. Our nation is currently facing some big obstacles. Racism, poverty, income inequality, and a failing education system have left too many Americans suffering deprivation.
It's time to change that. And so, today, I am announcing my candidacy for election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016.
As I look over my decades of service in Albany, representing our community, I'm proud of what we've accomplished, championing and protecting rent regulation and affordable housing, combatting discrimination in the criminal justice system, and building our economy. But now it’s time to find a new, more powerful means of service to our communities and to our nation.
My dream is about more than becoming a member of Congress. This dream is one of serving others. It's about leading and creating laws that make real the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.
