With more than 102,000 children across our country waiting for a permanent home, the last thing we should be doing is preventing loving, caring and responsible parents from welcoming them into their families.
Yet there are still too many states in this country without protections, or worse yet, with discriminatory laws, preventing LGBT parents from adopting or fostering those children and giving them the happy, stable home they’ve always deserved, but never known.
That’s why I reintroduced the Every Child Deserves a Family Act – to protect LGBT parents looking to adopt or foster and help secure safe and loving homes for our nation's children. Now my colleagues and I are urging Congress to pass this legislation immediately for every child waiting for a home. Will you join us and add your name now?
By prohibiting discrimination against prospective LGBT parents, the Every Child Deserves a Family Act would open up a pool of 2 million potential parents for the thousands of children who need safe, secure and loving homes.
We have to come together and tell Congress to pass this bill with urgency because behind each number and each statistic I’ve laid out here are children who, with a loving family, can have a fair shot and a bright future.
Please, add your name and stand with my colleagues and me in urging Congress to act now:
I’m proud of the open adoption policies we have in New York and am so grateful to you for standing with me to protect LGBT parents across the country.
