I had never run for public office in my life and when I ran for the United
States Senate in 2010 against longtime liberal and career politician Russ
Feingold, no one thought I could win. When I did, our victory set the
stage for the Republican takeover of the Senate last year.
Coming from the business world, I didn't really want to run for the
United States Senate. I had to.
And when I got to Washington, the mess and dysfunction were far worse than
I ever imagined.
If we are going to secure America's future, it is not career politicians
who will do it -- it is conservative outsiders committed to big, bold,
and sweeping reform. As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental
Affairs Committee, I am on point protecting our country in every way.
But now Russ Feingold is back to run against me again. He is hoping to
parlay his Washington Connections and the Clinton-Obama Fundraising Juggernaut
into a win in 2016.
And if Russ Feingold wins, the Harry Reid Democrats take a huge leap toward
regaining control of the United States Senate. We can't let it happen.
