Last month, our country made a huge stride toward equality when the Supreme Court brought same-sex marriage to all 50 states — but the fight for full equality is far from over.
We have to keep pushing forward: There are still too many states either lacking protections or flat-out barring LGBT parents from adopting or fostering children. Meanwhile, more than 102,000 children pay the price — they are stuck waiting for the permanent, loving homes they deserve.
That’s why my colleague, Rep. Donna Edwards, and I are calling on Congress to pass the Every Child Deserves a Family Act, which would protect LGBT parents looking to adopt or foster children.
