in the Senate.

While President Obama will certainly veto the bill, Democrats can and should kill the bill in the Senate, so that it never makes it to the president’s desk. There are 43 Democrats in the Senate with solid pro-choice ratings from women's groups. If they hold the line and oppose an abortion ban at 20 weeks, that's more than we need to sustain a filibuster and block this bill.
Trying to pass abortion bans is nothing more than political grandstanding by Republicans, who care more about their election season promises to anti-abortion activists than about the real values and priorities of their constituents. Senate Democrats need to block this craven attempt to throw women under the bus to score cheap political points.
When abortion is under attack by right-wing extremists, Democratic politicians have to defend it. They cannot let the right-wing build momentum that further erodes the protections afforded to women through Roe v. Wade.
