It goes without saying: Barbara Boxer is a trailblazer.
She made history as one of the first two women ever elected to the U.S. Senate from California, and for more than three decades in Congress, Barbara served as a fearless champion for so many of our progressive values.
Barbara will not be running again for reelection, but we can be sure she will continue working for American progress even though her office will no longer be in the Capitol. I hope you'll join me in expressing our appreciation for everything she has done – and will continue to do – for our country.
Barbara was always a strong voice in Washington for working American families – helping to establish the first federal funding for afterschool programs and creating thousands of jobs through innovative transportation programs and wilderness protection efforts.
I personally had the honor of working with Barbara on the Equal Rights Amendment – an issue we both hold dearly – and saw firsthand her fighting spirit motivated by the pursuit of equality and justice for all Americans.
Barbara's absence will certainly be felt in Washington, but I know that I, and so many of my colleagues, will continue to be influenced by her legacy and look forward to seeing what she does next for our country.
Thank you,
Carolyn [Maloney]
