“The dynamic next year will also be quite different. Republicans will control the Senate and could likely confirm Weiss without any Democratic support, if it came to that.” -Politico, 12/15/14
Dear Lucas,
This story has been a little under the radar, so I’ll try to give
you some background. Investment banker, Antonio Weiss, has been nominated
to one of the top positions at the Treasury Department. It would make
him in charge of parts of Wall Street reform and domestic finance.
I don’t think Mr. Weiss is the right man for the job, because the
position requires someone who really understands how to make the economy
work for middle class families. His current job is working on corporate mergers for a Bermuda-based investment
firm, including mergers that help corporations shield themselves from
paying their share of taxes.
I’m joining with fellow progressives to call on the President to
nominate someone who fights for main street not Wall Street. Join us --
sign our petition.
More than six years after the crash, the American economy is still recovering.
We got into that mess because we were willing to let Wall Street police itself. Foxes make poor guards of henhouses. We know that through bitter experience,
and I’m not willing to let it happen again.
Join me in asking the President to withdraw Antonio Weiss’s nomination.
We need a nominee who will put the middle class first.
Thank you.
