Did you hear that 300 “dark money” donors plan to spend nearly $1 BILLION to buy elections in 2016? POLITICO reports that number could make them even more powerful than the official Republican Party.
It’s a gross abuse of spending power, allowed by the disastrous Citizens United ruling, and we need to put a stop to it before another election is stolen from American voters.
These 300 “dark money” donors will have an outsized say in our elections – so Americans across the country are rallying to collect 300,000 signatures to oppose their outside cash. Will you join the outcry across the country by signing your name and calling on an immediate end to the effects of Citizens United?
No one should be able to silence American voters and buy our elections. But the disastrous Citizens United ruling opened the door to do just that.
We have to put a stop to Citizens United and massive outside spending in our elections – it’s the only way to take back our democracy.
When I was in the New York City Council, I helped author the bill that led to today’s campaign finance system in New York City, which allows public matching funds for low-dollar donors and caps what can be spent on elections. But now we’re going backward.
