Dear Friends:
Black History is American History. It is a history of a struggle toward
equality, opportunity and justice that is an integral part of our collective
conscience as a nation and as a people. And while this history affects
us daily, we dedicate an entire month each year to reflect on how far
we’ve come and, more importantly, how much more there is to do.
To this end, you are cordially invited to celebrate Black History Month
with Borough President Melinda Katz this Monday, where we will honor several
distinguished New Yorkers and present the winners of this year’s
African American Heritage Scholarship Awards. The event will begin at
6 p.m. on Monday, February 23rd in the Faculty Dining Room at York College,
located at 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Jamaica:
