Lucas, Republicans in Congress have a plan to kill President Obama’s
historic deal with Iran: Require the president to secure congressional
approval for any deal, knowing the overwhelmingly pro-war Republican majority
will kill it.
The president is currently negotiating a deal that doesn’t require
congressional approval, as other presidents have done for dozens of diplomatic
agreements in the past. But a bill by Republican Sen. Bob Corker would
require the president to seek congressional approval—something that
sounds great in theory, but would kill any chance at a peaceful resolution.
Simply put, the Corker bill takes a diplomatic resolution to Iran’s
nuclear program off the table for the Obama administration because of
the pro-war Republican majority in Congress. Worse, right now, eight Democrats
have said they support the Corker bill, putting war hawks frighteningly
close to a veto-proof majority.
One of your senators is a Democrat currently backing the Corker bill. Please
sign and send the petition to them: Don’t support Republican attempts
to sabotage negotiations with Iran.
Keep fighting,
