THEY'VE GOT WORK TO DO

This time 24 years ago, my mother Ann Richards, was 27 points down in her race for Texas Governor. As the Associated Press pointed out in a story dated August 21, 1990, she was “outspent, out-advertised and trailing in the polls.”

As a matter of fact, we never had a poll that showed her winning. But come Election Day, that’s just what she did.

The press has always underestimated the power of a well-organized, energized grassroots campaign in Texas. They did it with my mother -- and they’re doing it again with Wendy.

There is no limit to what a strong network of dedicated supporters can do. Contribute $5 or more to help Wendy keep driving toward victory on Election Day.

The day Wendy laced up a pair of pink sneakers and filibustered restrictions on women’s health care access, thousands of people flooded the Capitol from all over the state. We knew we were witnessing something special: leadership in action.

Wendy is not only a champion for women in Texas, she’s a fighter for all hardworking Texas families. She believes everyone deserves an education, an opportunity to succeed, and someone who will be a voice for the folks they represent.

That’s the kind of Governor Texas needs. Wendy is making steady progress in the polls right now -- with a recent survey showing a single-digit margin in the race. T he goal for the month is $350,000. Help her get there with a contribution of $5.

More than two decades ago, Ann Richards became governor by mobilizing people who had been shut out of the political process for too long. Folks knocked on doors, talked to their neighbors, and on Election Day, they showed up to vote for a better future for our state.

I’ll never forget the perfect day in January 1991 when we proudly marched up Congress Avenue from the bridge, thousands strong, to take back government for the people of Texas.

We’re ready to make history again and elect Wendy Davis -- but first, we’ve got work to do.

So let’s get to it.

Onward,

Cecile Richards
