Dear Lucas,
I hear it a lot: “Y’know, Al, I sure do get a lot of your
emails.” And as a Minnesotan, I know what that really means: “STOP
SENDING ME SO MANY DARN EMAILS, AL.”
Look. I get it. It’s a lot to read. But did you ever consider that
it’s also a lot to write? I mean, everyone’s familiar with
“Donor Fatigue.” But nobody ever talks about “Asking-Donors-for-Money
Fatigue.”
I hate bothering you so much. It’s no fun coming up with a million
different ways to warn you about the Koch brothers’ attack ads or
remind you that there’s a monthly deadline lurking around the corner
(as if you aren’t able to read a calendar without my help).
And, believe me, I don’t like all those links inviting you to
donate $5 or more to help meet our $300,000 grassroots fundraising goal
any more than you do.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
I’m sorry. I’m only doing it because
Citizens United gives corporate special interests the ability to spend unlimited -- ah,
but you know all this.
In a perfect world, you’d be able to read your email without having
to endure a laundry list of increasingly desperate-sounding pleas for
your grassroots contributions. And I’d be able to run a winning
campaign without having to write them.
But, well, here we both are. And so here comes another one of those obnoxious links:
Our race is getting tighter, and we need to hit our $300,000 September
goal -- can you chip in $5 or more right now?
Sorry. And thanks. But, mostly, sorry.
Al
P.S.: If we didn’t have the Koch brothers to worry about, I’d
be able to use this space to tell you about all the fun we’re having
on the campaign trail, or maybe ask how your summer was. Or, heck, this
email could have ended a few paragraphs ago. But, thanks to
Citizens United, I have to use it for an “extra ask.” It’s unfair to
both of us.
And I hope you’ll click here to donate $5 or more toward our $300,000
September goal now!
