WORK FOR SANITATION

Apply Now to Join the NYC Department of Sanitation

Since the founding of the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) as the Department of Street Cleaning in 1881, Sanitation Workers have been keeping NYC safe, clean, and environmentally healthy. Now is your chance to help the Big Apple shine!

Through October 31, 2014, men and women can register to take the Sanitation Worker exam, which will be held in February 2015.

More than street cleaning and garbage removal, Sanitation Workers are involved in everything from recycling and organics collection, to snow removal and enforcement.

Benefits
Sanitation Workers receive benefits for themselves and their families, including medical, dental, and eye-care coverage, along with a pension plan and competitive starting salary. Many people who start as uniformed Sanitation Workers advance to become supervisors, superintendents, and chiefs.

Requirements
To become a Sanitation Worker, you must:
- Be at least 17.5 years old to take the exam
- Hold a high school diploma or GED by the date of your appointment
- Have a valid New York State Commercial Driver's License by the date of your appointment
- Pass a physical test, drug and alcohol screening, and meet medical guidelines
- Live within NYC, or in Nassau or Westchester counties, for the first five years of employment
