Dear Friend,
Today we celebrate Columbus Day and the hope for a better life that has
carried a long line of immigrants to our country's shores.
New York has always held a special place in our nation's history as
a welcoming home for generations of settlers, whose diverse cultures continue
to enrich the lives of us all today. I am proud to share with my own children
the rich history and traditions passed down to me from my Italian immigrant
grandparents.
I hope today we may all reflect on the strength and sacrifice of those
who have come before us, and look ahead to the promise of a better tomorrow,
just as our fellow New Yorkers and Americans have done for centuries.
Sincerely,
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
