As we observe Veterans Day today and honor the men and women who have served our country, we must be committed to expressing our gratitude by taking action to ensure all veterans and their families get the support and benefits they deserve. The VA healthcare crisis may have faded from the headlines, but the real work remains ahead of us. We need more doctors at the VA to meet the soaring demand for healthcare. We need to help veterans with PTSD and combat-derived mental illness get immediate access to the best specialized care available. We need to help new veterans get good jobs, and use their unique skills and experience to advance their careers. And we need to do everything we can to house homeless veterans, because no man or woman who fights to protect our homeland should ever end up living on the street.
There should be no politics or partisanship when it comes to honoring and serving our veterans. I'm hopeful that this Congress will be able to rise above the partisan fray, come together and solve problems for veterans and their families. We've got a lot of work to do and a lot of obstacles to overcome, but we can never stop fighting for those who fought for us.
