By now you probably know that on Tuesday I was elected to represent our district in Congress. This was a team effort, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unending support. You made the difference. You gave your money, your time, your effort, your vote. You invested in me. You put your faith and trust in me to fight for you and to get things done for our district. For that I'm incredibly grateful, and I promise you I will not let you down.
It was a tough night for Democrats on Long Island, in New York and across the country, but I have a record of bipartisanship and we communicated a message that resonated with voters from both parties. Throughout this campaign I've talked about my political independence and my ability to reach across the aisle, find common ground and solve problems. That's not just talk -- it's a commitment I've made to you and to myself to build bipartisan relationships and work together to get things done.
Again, thank you for giving me this opportunity. I'm ready for the hard work that lies ahead, and I'm honored to have you on my team.
