BISHOP BIDS FAREWELL

Dear Lucas --

When I look back on the last twelve years, despite the outcome of Tuesday’s election, the word that comes to mind is grateful.

I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve the residents of eastern Long Island for twelve years. During that time, I helped write and pass legislation that provided not only immediate relief for our citizens but that will continue to provide benefits for many years to come. More importantly, my staff and I have successfully closed over 17,000 constituent cases. It is gratifying to know that as a result of our advocacy, the lives of many individuals and families were positively affected.

And I am most grateful for all of you -- the friends and supporters I have met along the way. Without your tireless enthusiasm and unending dedication, the last twelve years would not have been possible. You have provided financial support for my campaigns, you have made countless phone calls, and you have knocked on doors in the heat of the summer, the chill of early fall and even as we struggled to comprehend the full impact Superstorm Sandy would have on our region two years ago. We have been through a lot over the years but we got through it together.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support over these many years. Although I do not yet know what will come next, I will always look back on my time in Congress with fondness and I will always cherish the wonderful friendships I have made.

Again, thank you.

Tim Bishop
