Our country’s future is at stake – but right now, we have a chance to do something about it.
We know that elections should be decided by the will of the people, not the highest bidder. But thanks to Citizens United, a handful of billionaires are funneling huge amounts of money into key political races in states from New York to North Carolina.
Campaign finance has been important to me since my days on the New York City Council when I authored our city’s landmark campaign finance act that helped limit big money and empowered small donors. That’s why I’m so alarmed by these mega-donor funded interest groups that are flooding the airwaves with baseless attack ads. Elections are right around the corner, so if Congress doesn’t act now, these shady operatives could drown out the voices of everyday Americans.
We can’t let that happen. I need your help to urge Congress to act.

With zero disclosure and zero accountability, extremist operatives like Karl Rove are trying to buy influence. And in the past few months, their pockets have only grown deeper: Rove’s Super PAC, American Crossroads, raised almost $5.5 million in the first quarter of this year, which is more than they raised in all of 2013. Another shady group, Americans for Prosperity, has already spent some $9 million on attack ads.
To date, these outside groups have spent three times more than they had at this point in the 2012 elections.
Enough. It’s time to take back our democracy.
