Friend,
Every day across our state good teachers are leaving their profession, unable to make it on low pay no matter how much they love their jobs and their students.
Help for teachers has languished and North Carolina now ranks 46th in the nation in teacher pay. This is unacceptable. North Carolina is hurting its economy and its children by shortchanging schools.
Instead of Band-Aid solutions, one time bonuses and pilot programs that may raise pay for some teachers years from now, North Carolina should raise teacher pay now and take it to the national average within the next few years. This commitment shows teachers we are serious about treating them like professionals and paying what they deserve. Click here to sign our petition and be heard.
It's time to demand action from the Governor and the Legislature, not just talk. As the legislative session reconvenes tomorrow, join me at roycooper.com/teachers and let's push for North Carolina to raise teacher pay to the national average within the next few years.
Our teachers deserve better, plain and simple. Together, we can do this.
Roy Cooper
