After he was convicted of attempted arson in the second degree and sentenced to a five-year term, Simon W. appealed.
But because the evidence showed that the guy intended to start the fire, the Appellate Division, First Department, rejected Simon's contention that the verdict went against the "weight of the evidence." (Simon was found to have poured gasoline onto the floor of a store where he had worked, and threw a lit match into the space while another employee was still inside.)
He burned that bridge.
