On Wednesday, my friend Al Franken celebrates his birthday – and we’re all one day closer to Election Day. With just under six months to go, every day – every hour – counts.
In the next 24 hours, we could give Al a birthday gift that really means something by defending Al (MN), Mark Pryor (AR), John Walsh (MT) and Gary Peters (MI) against GOP billionaires trying to bulldoze a path to the Senate majority straight through their states.
Each of these candidates leads in the polls by just single digits – much too close for comfort, especially considering that all four men are up against Tea Party-backed extremists.
If we do not support these key Democratic allies, we can say goodbye to our chances of furthering the issues we care about most. Will you join me in protecting our majority?
Al and I may fight fierce battles on the squash court, but he, Mark and John have all stood by my side when it comes paycheck fairness and ending violence against women – and I cannot think of anyone more worthy than Gary to fill the shoes of retiring Senator Carl Levin.
If we do not help our candidates, we could find ourselves in the hands of radical Republicans like Al’s leading opponent, Tea Party favorite Julianne Ortman, who has voted against equal pay, workplace protections for women and reproductive health.
Elections cannot be won six months out, but they can be lost. I have promised to raise $33,000 by Wednesday to make sure that we do not wake up in November to an all-GOP and Tea Party Congress, but I need your help.
