Lucas,
Who woulda thought? Mitt Romney is on the right side of an issue.
Last week, in an interview, Mitt Romney said: "On the issue of the minimum wage, I think we ought to raise it."
That kind of common sense is incredibly rare in the Republican Party. Congressional Republicans are led by the Tea Party who won't even permit a vote on raising the minimum wage.
That's why I'm asking you to stand up to raise the minimum wage.
At $7.25, the minimum wage is far too low and nearly everyone will benefit from a higher minimum wage. Approximately 20 million Americans will earn more, millions of families will be lifted out of poverty, and it'll grow the economy.
But Tea Party Republicans don't care. They are standing in the way of President Obama and national Democrats as we work to boost the economy and create good jobs for every American. We're making progress but only a groundswell of protest will allow us to overcome Republican opposition.
Lucas, will you voice your support to raise the wage?
Together, we can mobilize support for a $10.10 minimum wage that helps working families escape poverty. Just like the last minimum wage increase, which I pushed through Congress in 2007, this will help millions of people. It's the kind of smart, progressive policies that I've fought for throughout my tenure in Congress.
Join me in the fight to raise the minimum wage!
Thank you,
Charles B. Rangel
Member of Congress
