STOP THIS SHAMEFUL POLICY

Lucas,

Right now, married survivors of domestic violence are forced to file joint taxes with their abuser in order to benefit from affordable health care in America. Seventy-four of my colleagues and I believe that policy is shameful. And, I think you will too.

We have delivered a letter to the Treasury Department, requesting that we amend tax policy immediately to allow survivors of domestic violence to benefit from health care subsidies without requiring that they put themselves in any more danger.

I want to follow our letter with 25,000 signatures from my supporters who agree that survivors of domestic abuse should not have to face their abuser to gain access to affordable health care. Can I count on you to stand with me? Sign now if I can!

Thousands of survivors will be unable to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act, leaving many to turn back into harm's way in order to affordably insure themselves and their families. And that's just not right.

Pay attention to this because I want to strike while the iron's hot. Help us demand an immediate resolution from the Secretary of Treasury for the brave women and men who have survived domestic abuse. Add your name here.

As always, it means the world that I can count on you to defend our values.

Louise

P.S. Thanks to those of you who signed my petition last week to urge Congress to take swift steps to eliminate sexual assault in the military. Making sure the members of our military are safe while serving our country must continue to be a priority until we can eradicate it altogether.
