LOOK WHO'S ON THE CIVIL COURT SCREENING PANEL

THE FLACKS REPORT

The New York County Regular Democratic organization’s 2014 Civil Court screening panel has been formed and is now reviewing the applications of seventeen applicants for the one County-wide seat created when Anil Singh became a State Supreme Court Justice. Once again County “leader” Keith Wright is keeping the names of the panelists secret. [The panel will also review incumbent Arlene Bluth who is seeking re-election to her County-wide seat.] The panelists are interviewing now through March 15th, 2014, and will issue their report on March 20th.

There are two local district Civil Court vacancies: one for Peter Moulton—also elevated to Supreme Court—whose West Side seat was already filled by a County Committee procedure last Fall (which chose Carol Sharpe)—and one for Debra James, also elected to Supreme Court. It is rumored that James’s West Harlem seat will be filled by Keith Wright’s choice of Michael Anthony Hardy, the lawyer for Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. [Hardy refused to be interviewed for this article.] Also Jose Padilla, elected from an East Harlem Civil Court District, and completing a ten-year term, is seeking re-election, but doesn’t appear to be going before any review panel as of now. So much for panel screening at the local level.

Here are the twenty-one screening panelists, in no particular order, and the names—for identification purposes—of the organizations, whose chiefs designated them to serve on the screening panel. [E. & o.e.]
