Anyone familiar with Charlie Rangel's career knows how he's delivered. He sponsored the Affordable Care Act that has enabled millions of Americans to afford health insurance. He led the fight to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit to help workers escape poverty. He's leading the push to raise the minimum wage so that working people are not trapped in poverty. Charlie Rangel is an icon to so many Americans.
Here in New York City, we feel his impact even more. Thanks to Congressman Rangel's work, Upper Manhattan received more than $300 million thanks to the Empowerment Zone. He's helped create jobs in Harlem, Washington Heights, and the Bronx and just last week, spoke with some of our largest employers to encourage them to hire the long-term unemployed. Thousands of contract workers at New York City airports earn more thanks to his advocacy.
