STRINGER MARCHES WITH PRIDE

Dear friend,

For more than a decade, the New York City Comptroller's Office has played a leading role in connecting non-profits and service delivery organizations in our city with nearly three hundred thousand LGBTQ New Yorkers. This year, I'm pleased to present my office's new and improved Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Services Guide - the most comprehensive directory of its kind ever compiled in New York City.

The guide provides all New Yorkers with a better understanding of the resources and programs available to the LGBTQ community, from community-based organizations and healthcare facilities to support groups and recreational clubs. Our goal, as Gay City News wrote, is to be "user-friendlier," and I invite you to visit our website and download the guide.

This Pride Week, I'm proud to reaffirm my lifelong support for our city's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community. I was one of the first co-sponsors of a 1995 Assembly bill to enact marriage equality in New York. When my wife, Elyse, and I married in 2010, we did so in Connecticut to protest New York's then continued discrimination against lesbian and gay couples.

I have also been a staunch supporter of the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act - a state bill prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity or expression. I will continue to fight for the passage of this measure ensuring that all New Yorkers are treated equally.

My office is partnering with Macy's and The Men Event to host our LGBTQ Pride Celebration and Changemakers Award Ceremony in Macy's Herald Square. This event, one of our city's largest Pride Month festivities, celebrates individual New Yorkers for their outstanding contributions to the LGBTQ community.

Once again, I will be marching in the annual NYC Pride Parade, which will be held this Sunday, June 28th. The Pride Parade is a singular event - a time when we celebrate the LGBTQ community while renewing our commitment to the struggle for equal rights. If you would like to join with us as we march, please meet us this Sunday at 11 am on 35th Street between 5th and Madison Avenues.

To RSVP, please send an email to RSVP@comptroller.nyc.gov.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Stringer
Comptroller of the City of New York
