Assembly Passes Legislation to Provide Vital Financial Support to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver announced the passage of legislation (
A.10096) that would reduce water and sewer rates for the National September
11th Memorial and Museum.
“The September 11 Memorial and Museum is a place where our Lower Manhattan neighbors, and people from the around the world, can come to pay respects to the lives tragically lost in that horrible day,” Silver said. “This exemption will help to ease a financial burden on this important cultural and historical institution, which does not receive funding from the federal government. It is essential that we offer support to the museum and memorial, so that our community and the world will never forget what we suffered that day.”
This bill amends existing law that provides financial relief through reduced rates to eligible hospitals, schools, religious institutions, and charities in New York City. The Senate has also passed this bill.
