DISTURBINGLY CLEAR

Lucas,

[T]he Supreme Court delivered a ruling that made its priorities disturbingly clear: when it comes to the all-important interests of corporations, women’s rights must take a backseat.

In Hobby Lobby, the Court ruled that bosses can refuse to cover contraceptive care, including birth control, based on religious beliefs. It is simply unacceptable that working women should have to worry about access to basic health care in 2014.

To quote Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in her blistering 35-page defense of women’s rights: “the Court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield.”

I’m incredibly disappointed in this decision by our nation’s highest court. Instead of reaffirming a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, the Court has further bolstered an already hostile environment toward women’s reproductive rights.

Now more than ever we must align our voices and defend women’s access to health care. Click here to stand with me and say birth control is #notmybossbusiness.

Since his election to Congress during the Tea Party wave of 2010, my Republican opponent Chris Gibson has consistently stood on the wrong side of this issue. While he says the right things on the campaign trail, Rep. Gibson has voted consistently to restrict reproductive freedom and women’s access to health care. He even joined John Boehner and extreme conservatives to defund Planned Parenthood.

Voters in our district deserve better.

I am proud of my record as a strong advocate for women’s reproductive freedom. I was proud to serve on the board of Planned Parenthood in the Hudson Valley, and I will be an unwavering advocate for women's health care in Congress.

Will you join me in standing up for a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions?

Add your name right now in defense of women’s health and reproductive freedom.

Thanks for speaking up,

Sean
