WHO'S THE MAYOR APPOINTING?

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Latino Appointments

as of January 1, 2013

The NiLP Network on Latino Issues (January 1, 2013)

As promised, we will be monitoring NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio's appointments to keep track of Latino representation in his new Administration. As of today, his Inauguration, he has made 17 appointments, 4 (or 23.5 percent) are Latinos, the same as for Blacks. Whites number 9 (or 52.9 percent), while no Asians have been appointed yet.

An interesting development has to do with the sex of the appointments. All of the Latino appointments are women, while all of the Black appointments are men. There is a much greater gender mix among the White appointees.

Please note that de Blasio is also asking some members of the Bloomberg Administration to stay on for various periods of time, which we are not factoring in at this point in our count.

The de Blasio appointments announced so far (as of January 1, 2013) are:

Latino Appointments

Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services

Carmen Farina, Schools Chancellor

Gladys Carrion, ACS Commissioner

Ursula Ramirez, Chief of Staff for Schools Chancellor

Black Appointments

Zachary Carter, Corporation Counsel

Kyle Kimball, President, NYC Economic Development Corporation

Gilbert Taylor, Commissioner of Homeless Services

Dominic Williams, Chief of Staff for First Deputy Mayor

White Appointments

Anthony Shorris, First Deputy Mayor

Alicia Glen , Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development

Laura Santucci, Mayor's Chief of Staff

Dean Fuleihan , Budget Director

Emma Wolfe, Director of Intergovernmental Relations

William Bratton, Police Commissioner

Polly Trottenberg, Transportation Commissioner

Bob Linn, Director of Labor Relations

Stanley Brezenoff, unpaid special adviser to Labor Relations Director

We will continue, from time to time, to monitor how Mayor de Blasio fills the more than 100 positions in city government. Please let us now whenever you hear of an appointment that we should be including in our analysis by writing to info@latinopolicy.org.
