Tuesday’s votes in the Senate are terrible news for millions of unemployed Americans and their families across the country. With this refusal to extend unemployment insurance, Republicans have turned a blind eye to the plight of the more than 1.5 million Americans distressed from the loss of this economic lifeline as they look for work.
These struggling families cannot afford the GOP refusal to move on unemployment insurance, which will also slow our economy, costing us 240,000 jobs this year alone. Every week that Republicans refuse to act, another 72,000 Americans, on average, lose the lifeline they need to pay their bills and support their families during their crisis of unemployment.
