Statement from Carlo A. Scissura, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Congratulating Maria Torres-Springer on Her Appointment as SBS Commissioner
"We would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to Maria Torres-Springer as the new Commissioner of New York City's Department of Small Business Services. She brings an enormous amount of experience to the position in her previous work, most recently, as COO at the Friends of the High Line and when she served as Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff at the NYC Economic Development Corporation and Senior Policy Advisor at the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development & Rebuilding. During her time at NYCEDC, she was instrumental in launching the Applied Sciences Initiative and the redevelopment of Coney Island. During her time there, I worked closely with her on a number of projects and saw how effective she can be. As SBS Commissioner, we want to help her grow small businesses -- particularly ones owed by immigrants -- and help with economic development initiatives in Brooklyn's many neighborhoods. The Brooklyn Chamber, a contracted partner of SBS's Business Solutions Center in Brooklyn, has always had a close relationship with the agency and we look forward to working with Commissioner Torres-Springer in her new role. Together, we can help her, the de Blasio administration and SBS with growing small businesses and the creation of new jobs."
