Statement from Carlo A. Scissura, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Regarding Governor Andrew Cuomo's Proposed 2014-2015 Executive Budget
"We would like to commend Governor Andrew Cuomo for his proposed 2014-2015 Executive Budget and its focus on programs that will help businesses and communities grow in Brooklyn and throughout New York State. The governor has turned a $10 billion deficit into to a $2 billion surplus by employing fiscally responsible policies over the past three years. This surplus will allow New York State to fund tax cuts for job-creating businesses in addition to making crucial investments in education. The creation of universal Pre-K without raising taxes and the plan to fund SUNY/CUNY college scholarships for the top 10% of high school graduates who pursue careers in science, technology and engineering - areas of growth so important to Brooklyn - will go a long way in producing a workforce that is prepared for the jobs of the future."
