GOProud's Statement on the Congressional Budget Office Obamacare Report

In response to a recent report produced by the Congressional Budget Office, GOProud– a national organization of gay and straight Americans seeking to promote freedom by supporting free markets, limited government and respect for individual rights- released the following statement:

Tuesday, the Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan economic research arm of the United States Congress, released a report projecting a loss of 2.5 million jobs over the next decade due to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The report also projects a near trillion dollar addition to the national deficit, and an overall 1% reduction in labor force compensation between the years 2017 and 2024.

“This report illustrates what Republicans have been saying all along; Obamacare is an economic disaster,” said Matthew Bechstein, Co-Director of GOProud.

“If all of the problems that surfaced during it's disastrous rollout were still not enough to convince proponents that Obamacare is bunk, perhaps the impending fiscal crisis will. After continued losses in coverage and choice of practitioner, premium hikes and tax increases, I think few Americans can stomach more bad news about Obamacare.”

“The ACA was marketed as champion legislation for middle-class families. Instead, the bill encourages people to work less in order to maintain government-subsidized healthcare benefits. Rather than empowering lower-income and middle-class families to continue providing for themselves, or working to advance professionally, Democrats have built a system of perpetual government dependency and economic suppression." continued Bechstein.
