I've watched Congress evolve more and more with each election -- the Democratic women in the House are by far the most diverse gender-party bloc in all of Congress and the 113th House Democratic Congress is the most diverse in our country's history.
Know why? EMILY's List has not only supported me in the past -- helping me become the first African American woman in Congress from Wisconsin and just the second woman from my state -- but they have helped to elect every single Democratic woman of color currently serving in Congress. EMILY's list has helped put us on the path to make Congress look more like America.
But we're not there yet.
Look, I know from personal experience how hard EMILY's List works to support pro-choice women, including pro-choice women of color. Because if we want laws that work for everyone, then everyone needs a voice and a seat at the table.
