I just came from a press conference with brave survivors of military sexual assault who are helping make our final push for justice. As I type this, we stand within reach of the 60 votes we need to overcome a filibuster.
We are so close – but the last few votes are the hardest, and we need them to come now. I need you to add your voice and help me get the crucial votes from the few senators who are still on the fence.
What you do right this minute will help determine whether we convince the skeptics and win this thing, once and for all. This is why I have joined with several colleagues for a big, renewed push behind the Military Justice Improvement Act, but we need you.
These are men and women who are the best and brightest. They should never have to face attacks within their own ranks and be denied justice. Add your voice and we will get there.
We will never let up on this, because it is about basic fairness and justice for the men and women who put everything on the line for us. There is nowhere in our country but the military where a boss gets to decide whether or not a sexual assault occurred.
The current system is just wrong, and it is broken.
We all value the service of our veterans. Now we need to listen to them when they say that after more than 20 years of failing to combat a sexual assault crisis in the military, we need to make this common sense reform. They have waited far too long for a fair shot at justice.
The time is now and you can help get us there.
Our heroes deserve justice.
We cannot be denied,
Kirsten [Gillibrand]
