Lucas,
Almost four years ago, I stood beside our President, Barack Obama, as he signed the Affordable Care Act into law. There may have been a few hiccups along the way but millions of Americans can now access affordable healthcare.
I recently spoke at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and encountered a few of the thousands of New Yorkers who have health insurance thanks to the law. Constituents have been coming to our office saying thank you. So many people faced insurance limiting the care they could receive, went bankrupt, or had a pre-existing condition that prevented them from getting insurance.
Lucas, we've proven the nay-sayers wrong time and time again. They thought we couldn't pass universal healthcare. They claimed it would be a disaster. But look - millions of Americans no longer have to decide between food or medicine.
Thank you,
Charles B. Rangel
