Lucas –
This year alone, a shocking 20,000 instances of rape, sexual assault, and unwanted sexual contact occurred in our military.
But even worse, the Defense Department reports that fewer than 3 out of 10 victims of sexual assault trust the chain of command enough to report the appalling crimes committed against them.
Defending the military’s status quo will not solve this problem – it is the problem.
We need to speak out now and demand Congress takes immediate action to reform sexual assault processes in our military: Join me by signing your name in support of the Military Justice Improvement Act to protect our men and women in uniform.
This country cannot defend the culture in our military that has clearly failed one of its single and most important missions: protecting its own.
We have to end the culture of tolerating the abuser and punishing the victims. The Military Justice Improvement Act would do just that, by transferring the decision to prosecute outside the chain of command and freeing victims to speak up without fear of retribution or punishment.
But unless we all speak out now – nothing will change. Please, join me and thousands of Americans by signing your name and demanding Congress takes action to protect the men and women in our military.
Sign your name, and tell Congress to act now: Pass the Military Justice Improvement Act.
Thank you,
Carolyn
