GUN VIOLENCE HAS FOREVER CHANGED HER

Dear Lucas,

The loss of precious life from gun violence has forever changed me, as well as the brave, resilient community of Newtown, our state, and our country.

As we near the two year anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Newtown community is calling on all of us to perform small acts of kindness this week in our own communities.

Please join me in taking time out of our busy holiday schedule to volunteer in your community. Please urge your friends and family to volunteer as well. You can share your experiences on Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtag #HonorWithAction.

I'm volunteering throughout the week both at home in Connecticut and in Washington, D.C. Yesterday, I spent some time reading with preschool children in New Britain.

Two years ago, our hearts were broken – but our spirits were not. Together, we will continue to make a difference and work to end senseless gun violence.

Thank you all for your service,

Elizabeth
