PROTECT MEDICARE

Lucas,

American seniors shouldn’t have to be sitting on piles of gold to enjoy their “golden years,” and thanks to Medicare – signed into law 49 years ago last month – they don’t have to.

Medicare makes it possible for 49 million American seniors to see their doctors and access life-saving medication and care – that’s the power of progressive legislation!

I’ve been fighting to protect and strengthen Medicare since I entered office, and while we should be celebrating one of America’s most successful safeguards today, we also need to stand up and fight to protect it.

Medicare is under attack – once again – by House Republicans who want to dismantle it. American seniors have spent a lifetime of hard work paying into Medicare, and they deserve every last benefit they were promised.

I’ve joined legislators and organizations throughout our country to defend the promise of guaranteed healthcare. Will you add your name to our petition and stand 150,000 strong for Medicare?

Please, join progressives across the country to show Congress that we won’t stand for breaking America’s promise to our seniors – and that we will secure the promise of Medicare for generations to come.

When President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law in 1965, 50 percent of seniors had no health insurance, and 35 percent lived in poverty – one illness could destroy their lives, physically and financially.

But Medicare changed all that, providing guaranteed benefits to millions, including disabled Americans receiving social security benefits.

And it still works today – we have 49 years of proof to back it up, yet Paul Ryan and his Tea Party allies are still pushing to turn it into a voucher system, robbing seniors of guaranteed healthcare.

Why would we gamble away a sure bet that has transformed lives for 49 years in favor of a system that leaves vulnerable citizens at risk?

Please, add your name to show you stand with our seniors and progressives across our great country in protecting Medicare.

Join me in standing 150,000 strong in support of Medicare – this couldn’t be more important.

Thank you for protecting one of our country’s most precious promises.
