The cost of a college education should never include a one-in-five chance of being sexually assaulted.
That's why, I proudly stood alongside a bipartisan group of lawmakers and introduced the Campus Accountability and Safety Act – a bill that combats the epidemic of campus sexual assault.
We introduced this bill for survivors. For today's college students. And for young people across our country who dream of one day attending college.
The introduction of this bill is an important first step, but I need your help to amplify the legislation, and its message, far, far beyond the halls of Congress.
That's why I'm asking you to take your own "selfie" with the hashtag #NotAlone to spread the word about our legislation and to let survivors of sexual assault and college students everywhere know that we stand with them.
Click here to check out my #NotAlone "selfie", and then share your own to show your support.
Our new bill provides campus resources and support services for survivors, better training for on-campus personnel, campus transparency and campus accountability and improved coordination with local law enforcement – critical steps toward creating a safer campus environment for our students.
This is everyone's fight. Thank you for standing with me.
With gratitude,
Kirsten [Gillibrand]
