Lucas,
Climate change already is impacting every corner of the Earth.
According to a new report produced by the world's top climate scientists, warming global temperatures are threatening crop yields, access to water and human health — as well as increasing the severity and frequency of extreme weather events.
These problems will get worse unless we take immediate steps to reduce carbon emissions.
No doubt, climate change is a global crisis that requires a global response.
That's why it's so important for the U.S. to demonstrate a strong commitment to climate action — because if we lead by example, other nations will follow.
Among the top things we can do here at home is limit carbon emissions from our electric power sector. Power plants are the largest source of climate altering pollution in the U.S., responsible for nearly 40 percent of our emissions.
Right now, the Environmental Protection Agency is accepting public comments on its proposed rule — the first ever — to limit carbon emission from new power plants.
Submit a comment to the EPA supporting limits on carbon emissions as a crucial next step in fighting climate change.
We don't have a lot of time. Unless we act immediately and boldly, the worst is yet to come.
It is a grim reality, but one that shouldn't make us throw our hands up in defeat. Instead, we must strengthen our resolve to fight for a livable planet for ourselves and future generations.
We can still do that.
Thank you for joining me in this fight.
Sincerely,
Allison Fisher
