LIU ON SHUTDOWN'S END

LIU ON LAST MINUTE AGREEMENT TO END THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

NEW YORK, N.Y. – In response to legislation which ended the government shutdown and lifted the federal debt limit, City Comptroller John C. Liu made the following statement:

"We welcome last night's 11th hour agreement on Capitol Hill that ended the partial shutdown of the federal government and saved the country from going into default for the first time in its history. At the same time we remain concerned that some extreme members of Congress were willing to put thousands of people out of work and bring the nation to the brink of disaster in a failed attempt to block legislation that had already been passed, signed into law, and upheld by the nation's highest court. Congress has only a few short months to make certain that the shameful government by crisis that Americans witnessed over the past month is not repeated."
