"For too long we have been focused on a false choice: between the health of our children and the health of our economy—and we have endlessly debated that choice even in the face of 43 years of documented history that proved that it just ain't so." – Gina McCarthy, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator.
Lucas, making the fuels Americans use to power their cars, trucks, and commercial vehicles every day is both an opportunity to protect our health—by preventing between 820 and 2,400 premature deaths annually and 1.8 million lost school or work days—and create good jobs. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed the "Tier 3 Standards" for gasoline—a set of rules to cut tailpipe emissions in those vehicles.
Cleaner cars are already on the way to building a stronger American auto industry and reducing pollution, but we also need to make sure that the fuel in every car is as clean as it can be right now. Recent reports in the media have suggested Tier 3 standards may be delayed until next year, a possibility made more real by the government shutdown.
We can't let that happen.
Sincerely,
