DON'T MISS DEADLINE FOR SCHOOL TAX RELIEF (S.T.A.R.) PROGRAM

The State's Department of Taxation and Finance is requiring all BASIC STAR recipients to register with the State to continue receiving their STAR homeowner exemption in 2014. This is a new, but one-time only requirement. Note: This requirement does not apply to Enhanced STAR, only BASIC STAR.

This one-time registration must be completed by December 31, 2013!

This week, the State mailed registration letters to all 564,000 BASIC STAR recipients in the 5 boroughs to inform them of the registration process. Constituents can also register by going to the following website or calling (518) 457-2036.

While constituents originally applied for BASIC STAR through the City's Department of Finance (DOF), this registration process is a requirement by the State to help ensure that only eligibile recipients receive the benefit. NYC DOF is not directly involved in this process, and is referring recipients to the State. Again, to be clear, this is a State initiative, not a City initiative.

ENHANCED STAR recipients are not required to take action. There is already a separate process in place through NYC DOF to verify their eligibility and that current process with continue.
