Dear New York City Advocates,
Please join the ASPCA at City Hall this Friday, November 1, to urge Governor Cuomo to sign the pet dealer bill!
In New York State, local governments are not permitted to regulate commercial dog breeders and pet stores. New York is the only state we know of with a law expressly tying the hands of its cities and counties! This inability of local governments to exercise their home rule authority has had terrible consequences for our state's dogs, whose protections under state and federal laws are woefully inadequate.
Fortunately—and thanks large in part to your help—A.740-A/S.3753-A, a bill that would allow local governments to hold commercial pet breeders and pet stores to higher standards, was
passed by the Legislature in June! This could be a huge victory for New York's animals, but we need your help to ensure that Governor Cuomo signs it into law!
Please attend, rain or shine, and show your support for our nation's long-suffering puppy mill dogs.

This rally is being hosted by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (the Assembly sponsor of A.740-A/S.3753-A and a true champion for animals) on the steps of City Hall to urge Governor Cuomo to sign the bill into law. Governor Cuomo has a strong record on animal welfare, both as governor and in his former role as attorney general—please join us and other animal advocates on Friday to show him your support for this bill!
P.S. Can't make it this Friday, but want to help? Call Governor Cuomo's office at (518) 474-8390 and urge him to sign the pet dealer bill into law!
