Dear Lucas,
The invisible epidemic of childhood hunger affects millions in this country every day. There may be kids in your own neighborhood that are not getting enough to eat — you just don't know it!
This Thanksgiving, we are shining a light on children who have struggled with hunger but are now receiving the food they need thanks to your support of the No Kid Hungry campaign.
Today, I want you to meet one of those kids. Six-year-old Grady dreams of competing in NASCAR someday. During the recession, his parents were struggling, and sometimes had to choose between paying their electricity and water bills just to be able to buy food for Grady and his 18-month-old sister, Gwen. Can you imagine having to make that choice?
Grady doesn't know that his parents would skip meals just to make sure he and his sister wouldn't go a day without food. Thankfully, those difficult times are over: Grady and Gwen's parents were connected to federal nutrition programs — advocated by the No Kid Hungry campaign — that ensure the whole family is getting the nutrition they need.
Today, Grady gets the food he needs to thrive. He enjoys school, loves math and playing with computers.
Lucas, your gift helps us change the lives of kids like Grady. I hope you'll share his story and inspire others to join you in ending childhood hunger. See the photos and learn more about other No Kid Hungry kids — and then let your friends and family know they can help feed hungry kids this Thanksgiving, too.
Thanks for all that you do to make No Kid Hungry a reality.
Sincerely,
Billy Shore
