Dear Lucas,
Flash back to election night 2012. In Michigan's First Congressional District, the Tea Party candidate narrowly edged out the Democratic candidate by just half a percent – a slim 1,881 votes.
It was a hard loss in a night filled with some great victories at the federal level. We can't let it happen again.
I don't need to tell anyone from Michigan what an incredibly special place the First Congressional District is. In sheer land mass, with its 15 Upper Peninsula counties and 17 Northern Michigan counties, it is the second largest district east of the Mississippi. It is home to so many of Michigan's treasures – our national parks, forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife that define who we are as a state. Of all the lower 48 states, it has the second longest shoreline, including Lakes Superior, Michigan and Huron.
Historically, this district had been represented by the strongest advocates and champions who understood how special this region is to our state and our country. That's why I am writing you today.
Major General Jerry Cannon has stepped forward to be that strong champion for Michigan's First Congressional District and to restore the kind of passionate leadership that the families of Northern Michigan and the UP expect. Michigan needs Jerry's leadership and he needs your help.
Can you help me support Jerry with a contribution of $10 or whatever you can afford today?
Jerry is a Vietnam veteran, served in the National Guard until 2012, and has been re-elected four times as Northern Michigan's Kalkaska County Sherriff. He understands our values, our Michigan way-of-life and is ready to provide the kind of fighting spirit families in the UP and Northern Michigan need and deserve.
This is a winnable district! After the Tea Party shut down the government, voters are looking for a change. I know Jerry has what it takes to win this race, but he can't do it without your help.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
P.S. Jerry is coming up on a critical fundraising deadline. It is absolutely essential that he demonstrate he has strong grassroots support. Please make a contribution of $10 or whatever you can afford today.
